Presenter, Kirstin Williams, a Speech-Language Pathologist for Bergman's Lifeskills class explains the use of Augmentative and Alternate Communication (AAC). AAC can be as low tech as a yes/no board to as high tech as an eye gaze computer that allows the speaker to talk making selections with their eyes. These types of communication systems are pivotal in building meaningful relationships with students, accessing curriculum, and decreasing behaviors caused by a lack of communication. AAC can be used by students who are nonverbal, verbal, English Language Learners, language impairmants, decreased vocabulary and more!
